My family is very small, with only my parents, sister and an uncle to buy for over Christmas. However, my husband is one of four boys, has two cousins, re-married parents and grandparents (among others!). This would be fine, if he was any good at Christmas shopping. He is not. So it usually falls to me to buy presents for my in-laws.
Luckily there is one thing that the males in his family have in common – their love of cricket. A couple of years ago we bought all his brothers, his dad and an uncle tickets for a Lord’s tour so they could go behind the scenes at the iconic home of English cricket. They also had a lovely day out together which doesn’t happen often with families and hectic lives.
Lord’s have a range of great gift ideas for any cricket fans, including paperweights made with some of the hallowed turf from the ground. Let’s face it, this is the closest most of us are going to get to walking on the ground that has been trodden by the greatest cricketers the world has seen. The turf, cut from the ground in 2002, is encased in a polyester resin with a UV filter to prevent fading. The cricket ball shaped paperweight also has mock stitching, a touch I liked. Surely a great talking point for any desk.
If the cricket lover in your life needs new cufflinks, what could be a better gift than a set in honour of the man Lord’s is named after? The links are silver effect and include 1787, the date Lord’s was established, on the back.
You can find all these gifts and more through the Lord’s online shop.
